January 26 - 30

Today is the 100th Day of school!!!! We will do lots of activities about our 100th day and count to 100 A LOT :)

Our letter this week is J, j as in jar. Please practice writing this at home and making short words with the blends! I am so very proud of the kiddos and the many who can read these short words! We will build off of this and begin reading our "little books" as soon as we finish the alphabet!

Our number is 17, but continue to count way past that! PLEASE help them practice memorizing what these teen numbers look like! Actually, what numbers 10-20 look like! It takes lots of practice at home!

Our unit is all about Polar Animals! We will learn lots of neat facts and do some fun things. Our field trip is tomorrow, January 27th. Don't forget to wear your PLA t-shirt!

Have a GREAT week!

*The Excel Club will be having a shoe drive for “Solefood Ministries” to give shoes to children in need in other countries.  We will be accepting new or slightly used shoes you’ve outgrown or don’t need.  We will be collecting until Friday, Feb. 27th.

**Children’s Hospital is having a King and Queen Contest:  Students in K4-6th grade will be participating.  This is January 22-February 12th.  The boy that collects the most money will be crowned King and the girl that collects the most will be crowned Queen in Feb.  This is a big fund raiser for Children’s Hospital and is a very worthy cause.  You may collect pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters or dollars.  Please have fun and help this worthy cause!

This week we are learning the letter F, f as in Fox! Don't forget to practice the blends and begin to add other consonants at the end of these blends to make small words. I hope the kiddos did ok reading the words on the handwriting papers that are sent home.

Our number is 16 although we have began counting to 100! Please practice this at home!

Our unit is on Penguins! If you have any books or movies about penguins, polar bears,  or any other arctic animals please send them to school!

Our field trip is next Tuesday! I sent home an email all about it. Please let me know if you did not get it!!

Have a GREAT week!

January 12 - 16

This week we are learning the letter R, r as in ring! Please practice the letter sound, formation, and blends. We are beginning to put other consonants on the end of the blends to make short words. Make sure they read those to you when they come home!!

Our number is 15, but we are counting way past that! Practice makes perfect when learning these numbers! Memorization!!

Our unit is on People of the Polar Region/Eskimos! We will be doing some fun stuff! We will also do some of the Winter activities we missed out on doing last week when I was out.

I will be sending home info on our field trip which is 2 weeks from tomorrow, Jan. 27th. We will all meet in Montgomery. Remember, you have paid for your child and one adult. The Shakespeare Festival doesn't allow "extras," so keep that in mind!
Please continue to send in canned items or items from the list I will be sending home today.
We have a holiday Monday, the 19th. It is the Martin Luther King/Robert E. Lee Holiday! Enjoy!

I am looking forward to getting back into a routine and having a nice "normal" week!! :)

We will work on writing the number 14.
Our unit is Winter, which goes great the freezing temperatures we are suppose to get this week :)

The PLAS Deer Hunt is this weekend. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Everyone has been asked to bring $10 to help with the costs.

A few dates to remember:
Monday, January 19th is a holiday - no school
Tuesday, January 27th is our field trip to ASF to see Alice in Wonderland. (More details will be given closer to time. I just wanted to remind you of the date in case you need to take off work/make arrangements for other kids)
